“Don’t Treat Me Like A Corpse”

wheelIf you think life is unfair
I’ll tell you what unfair means
If you think the world has turned on you
I’ll show you what it means to turn the world over
If you believe you don’t get another chance
I’ll show you what it means to keep faith
If you feel your situation is the worst
Let me show you what it feels to be me

But, I don’t need your pity
I just need a chance to feel human
Don’t treat me like a corpse
I just need the chance to feel alive
I don’t need your tears
I just need to be happy being me
Don’t feel sorry for me
I’m not begging to belong
Don’t ask how or why
For I’m unable to answer that myself

It doesn’t matter what the world sees
I’m comfortable just being me
It doesn’t matter however disabled I am
I still breathe yet another day
However the rain pours
I can still dance in it
Don’t treat me like a corpse
I am disabled, not dead!
I am grateful for every moment of each day
Won’t let you take that away from me
