“You Can Find Peace In Adversity”

ImageYes, we all hear this all the time,  “You can find peace in adversity,” especially when we are really in distress and the only things we hear are, “you can smile again,” “don’t lose hope and faith in the creator.” They are all right, but with no true in-depth most times.

Check this out: How can you tell someone who’s worked all his life and spent most of his sweat on making a living, and suddenly loses EVERYTHING in one day, to a small business failure; that, he should stay strong and not lose hope and faith in God, when he’s already approaching the age of retirement? Or to tell a woman who’s carried a pregnancy through the 9months period, had no issues, only lose the child to a still birth, and losing her womb in the process also, in other to save her own life; that, she still has hope to find peace? These are situations that can touch and damage a person’s heart and erase any kind of hope they may have had, before they lost it all.

Yes, you hurt so bad, that you sometimes even consider suicide or doing something irrational and you just don’t care anymore! But, here are some texts that should considered, each time you feel weary and downcast, to the point of death;

  • Proverbs 24:10-

“If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small”

  • 2 Corinthians 4:16-18-

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

  • Psalms 139: 7-10-

“Where shall I go from your spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your right hand shall lead me, and your hand shall hold me.”

In these short verses from the book of life, it’s obvious, even God knows all that goes on in our lives; both the good and bad times; He is very much aware and knows all the pains we abhor in our hearts. Adversity don’t just happen to us by chance or by mistake, as many believe it to be so; your own story may be different from other peoples’, your life may not be filled with as much pain as others, but we all carry our baggage in our hearts anyway, no matter how happy we feel in our hearts and about our lives; there’s always a bit of pain in every great story. But, what many don’t take to consideration is; ending your life because you are tired of a situation doesn’t make things any better; that is where your story ends! You will only die with no impact in anyone’s life, and it only takes time to forget you, once you are gone! But for a person who knows how to live through and survive all the heartache, such a person has a better life and an unforgettable story everyone will live to remember.

You cannot give in to your adversity and give up on your entire life because you feel you are fainting. You can still get back up and smile again for real. Nothing was made to last forever, and so, if you lose a part of you, and you still have air in your lungs, your story can have a turn around! Yes, you can find peace in adversity, but you must let go of that which destroys your faith and hope, and uphold the unquenchable strength lurking inside you! If life were so easy, of what use is the break of day? Will there be any reason to wake up to a new hope?

  1. I cant really bring myself to understand why people are driven to be suicidal……Can circumstances be that grave to want to commit suicide….. maybe its because I have never experienced. dont wish to abeg!

  2. Joyce,
Some circumstance even beat my Imagination, but there’s no denying the pain one would feel in such situations. But many do take life too serious, not to withstand the adversity that may come their way, because, they never really had the full faith and courage in themselves, and the only option that comes to mind is, suicide. Taking one’s life or the life of another to ease the pain is like fueling an already burning fire, It only leads to greater disaster, especially, to the ones they ever cared about.
Yes suicide is a terrible option to any situation, it’s why we all must always try to look beyond today’s agony, to be able to see the glory set ahead of us.

  3. Sucide is an easy way out it ends things as we know them. JOB is something i think of often and I am gratefull i have not been tested in the same manner. Death is lighter then a feather, Duty of Life is the weight or the world..

    • Yes thank God none of us (as far as I can tell from you, Joyce and myself), has been tested with such magnitude of pain and disappointment. We surely would not be tested that much by God’s grace. But then, God won’t test you farther than you can go, that is what I love to believe.
      Many thanks LR.

  4. It’s supposed to be, he wont tempt u more then u can take. The test in life accordingly, will be or can be beyond measure because the end game is the true beginning or destination. this is given what,s written as a stepping stone, temp. place.

      • Honestly, its all well either way. Sorry if I came off hard. Just out loud thought. In Faith, those who have that strength seem to bear all. For me, I’m so grateful i don’t have that; I’m humble to it. Stay positive. great writings. You almost make me want to grammar check and spell check too. Thanks.
